Information about Pet Licenses and Golf Cart Permits

All pets and golf carts are required to be licensed within the City of Wanamingo.

PETS:

Wanamingo Code of Ordinances 93.02 (B) requires that all pets be licensed with proof of rabies shots on file or the owner could be subject to a petty misdemeanor and be required to license the pet.

This ordinance helps to protect animals in case they are lost or run away from home. The City Council wishes to make sure that all animals get back to their home in case of any misfortunes. Last year the City had a number of animals taken to Kenyon Veterinary Clinic without licenses. This costs considerable dollars to the citizens of Wanamingo. Therefore, we have been notifying a number of citizens to obtain licenses for their pets.

GOLF CARTS:

Wanamingo Code of Ordinances 71.07 (B) requires that all golf carts driving on roadways designated by and within the City of Wanamingo are required to be licensed or the owner could be subject to a petty misdemeanor and be required to obtain the golf cart permit.  Minnesota State Statute 169.045 allows for operation of golf carts within communities of Minnesota as long as an ordinance is in place.  This ordinance requires permiting, insurance, slow moving signs, hours of operation, and application of traffic laws.

No Person under 18 years old or who does not have a valid driver's license is allowed to drive golf carts withing the City of Wanamingo.  Wanamingo City Code of Ordinances 71.07 (B) and (C) (3) specifically states permit holder /driver’s responsibilities including that golf carts are only to be driven by persons 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license. The reason for this is for the safety of the underage drivers and the possibility of injured pedestrians and private property damage.
